Move 2

Welcome to the Second Move.

We'll start by checking whether the North erupts likewise into revolt.

You'll recall that at the conclusion of move 1 that the region's Revolt index stood at four.

I would have to roll that or less and it would likewise erupt in revolt. I rolled a five. The region remains quiescent FOR NOW.

Let us see what our players come up with. Shall Suakin be relieved?

Reinforcements.
You have received reinforcements in the shape of any three units from the British OOB list.
Under the Command of Maj-General Sir Garnet Wolseley

6 Companies Imperial Infantry (ie, a battalion and a half)
2 Troops Anglo-Indian Cavalry
Camel Corps: two platoons camel-mounted infantry
One Battery of three 15-pdr rifled breech-loaders
One Battery of Nordenfeldt Machine Guns (ie, 1MG)

The units will arrive at Aswan. If you gentlemen players prefer, one of these units can be sent to Suakin instead (bringing 1d6 turns’ of supplies, if needed). Conversely, one unit per turn can also be evacuated from Suakin back to Alexandria, if you desire. Although that will have a detrimental effect on VPs.

Gordon orders the following troop movements:

The gunboat and naval brigade should continue their advance to Dongola (which they should reach this turn as long as they are not stopped at the cataract).

The infantry force at Atbara (now of 3 elements) will send 2 elements towards Suakin leaving the third to hold the fort.

The forces at Suakin and Khartoum will assess the strength of the enemy and decide whether to sally out for supplies accordingly.

  1. The refuges in Suakin are clamouring to be fed! The missionairies and their supporters back home are calling for them to be helped. Come gentlemen the die is in your court!
